We are pleased to announce the opening of the call for entries for the Latin American photography magazine Balam No. 10, under the theme LA BOHEME. We call photographers, collectives, artists and projects from all over the world to join us. In this opportunity, the artists invited to edit the publication with Luis Juárez are the Brazilian artists Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro and Ventura Profana.
We seek to gather images that embody and reflect the flows and feelings contained and aroused in bohemia: gestures, behaviors and displacements that defy the predictable; manifestations insubordinate to reason, logic, linearity and notions of certainty; a singular impulse (un)guided by desire and its multiple rhythms and poems.
Happiness, horniness, tensions, destabilizations and contradictions present in migrations, nocturnality and rituals will be the axes of an issue that will echo the ruptures, especially the religious, spiritual, musical, aesthetic, academic and imaginary limits established by colonization, cultural aspects in direct dialogue with the history of photography.
The image gestates new figures, and from them emerge ruptures that are sustained (through enjoyment; sometimes, abundance, sensuality, swing, devotion; and, even, danger) in disobedience to supremacist ideals.
For this anniversary issue, we invite you to think and develop proposals that delve into the notion of bohemia as a movement. An ebullition that not only intrigues, but also treats everyone as comrades, urges them to dance, seduce each other, steal the hours, cross the dawn, kiss the mouth of time with its red lips.

ABOUT BALAM
Balam is an independent magazine of contemporary photography based in Buenos Aires. Through themes aimed at exposing the multiple realities and accompanying the struggles of minorities and dissidences, it promotes authors who seek to express and project themselves in a territory without distinction of borders. Its publication aims to transform, make visible, question and (re)invent critical discourses that enter into dialogue with social, cultural and political issues from an anti-hegemonic stance and with a poetic effect/affect, unusual in traditional photographic practice.
ABOUT THE GUEST EDITORS
VENTURA PROFANA
Catu - Salvador de Bahía, Brazil
Daughter of the mysterious bowels of mother Bahia, Ventura Profana prophesies multiplication and abundance in black, indigenous and travesti life. Doctrinated in Baptist temples, she is a missionary pastor, singer, writer, composer and visual artist, which practice is rooted in the researche of the implications and methodologies of evangelization in Brazil and beyond, through the spread of neo-pentecostal churches. Praises, like the sting of a dagger licked with wax and rust in Pharisees' hearts.
CASTIEL VITORINO BRASILEIRO
Fonte Grande - Vitória / Espirito Santo, Brazil
Belongs to an AfroBantu family lineage. She is a visual artist, writer, psychologist and has a master's degree in Clinical Psychology. Her works include photography, video making, dancing, painting and installation (temples). In her multidisciplinary practice, Castiel studies the mystery between life and death, the so-called Transmutation, and the ways of moving between these existential zones. Her family belonging to the Bantu-Brazilian diaspora is the foundation articulated in her research on medicine and interspecific spirituality (between different forms of life).
